Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

Raising Awareness of Food Insecurity in North America

The Canadian Pacific holiday train has brightened Hartland during its December stop for over a decade. Since 1999 the Canadian Pacific Railway has provided a train decorated in holiday lights and live musical entertainment at each stop. The purpose of the train that travels through Canada and the United States each year is to raise awareness of food insecurity in most communities. Viewing the gigantic, powerful train coming down the tracks decorated with thousands of colorful lights, puts everyone in a festive mood. Once the train stops, the live holiday performance is enjoyed by all.

It is free to attend. If able, people are asked to bring non-perishable food items or cash to support their local food pantries. The holiday train has raised over $21 million and collected 5 million tons of food for community food banks across North America. In Hartland each year the pantry collects 2 to 3 pickup trucks filled with food donations. It also receives numerous money donations during the train’s stop. The CP train sends an additional generous check.

Thank you to all that have contributed to our food pantry! Because of the tremendous response from the Hartland community, the Canadian Pacific Railway continues to stop in Hartland. Our community is one of the lucky ones!

     Ways to support the pantry:

  • Bring non-perishable food or other household items to the train

  • Bring cash to the train and look for volunteers walking around the area

  • Send a check to the pantry
